Meadow orchards

Meadow orchards are of great importance for biodiversity. Today, there are only around six million trees left standing in meadow orchards. They are therefore among the most endangered biotopes in Europe and have even been entered on the Red List.

They are an ideal habitat for birds, mice, hedgehogs, mosses, lichens, bugs and endangered insects and a great source of nutrition for butterflies, bees, bumblebees and other insects.

In Europe’s meadow orchards you can find more than 5,000 animal and plant species and more than 3,000 fruit varieties.
